This game is inspired by the Netflix’s Squid Game. In the show the characters have to jump on either of the two glass panes in front of them. If they step on the wrong one, they are out of the game. If they step on the correct one, they continue until the game is over. If you want your students to play a fun game and teach them about prime and composite numbers, then this is the perfect game for you. First, download the free PDF file.
The objective of this game is to complete all the steps by only stepping on prime numbers. Who makes it to the end wins. There can be multiple winners.
First, set the game up like the image below. Each step should only have one prime and one composite number.
Students will have two options in front of them – a prime number and a composite number.
Students must step on the sheet of paper with the prime number to continue. Have the students say the number out loud so you can follow along. It is easier to follow the list of composite numbers.
If a student steps on a composite number, they are out of the game.
Take away the number they stepped on. It should look like this.
The other students can continue. Students should not wait for another student to finish the entire game to start. They should start as soon as the first student moves.
OPTIONAL RULES
- You don’t have to use all the steps.
- You don’t have to start with the number 1.
- You can limit the time to make the game more challenging. For example, giving the entire class 10 minutes to complete the game will make it more challenging. The students who haven’t finished the game in 10 minutes are out. There is a risk going first but there is also risk in going last.
