This is a super fun math game you can play with 1st to 4th graders. It will be review for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders but it will still be super fun.
- First, download the free PDF with 60 addition problems. All math problems add up to numbers no higher than 30.
2. Cut out the math problems.

3. Crumple the paper into “snowballs”. It should look like this.

4. Put it in a basket, bowl, or bucket. Throw the “snowballs” to the students so it looks like it is snowing.
5. There are different versions to this game but the simplest way is to have the students pick up one “snowball” and solve the problem in their head.

6. It can be time consuming to check every answer so you can have the students tell their partner the answer. It’s easier and faster if they have the same partner throughout the entire game.
7. Last, Students crumple the paper up again and you can do another round. You can do as many rounds as you want.
3 Other Versions
- This versions is extra fun. It is a mix of the snowball math game and freeze dance.
- Students can have a “snowball” fight while music is playing.
- When the music stops the students will answer whichever problem they have in their hand. If they don’t have a paper, then they miss out for that round.
- This other version is competitive.
- Give students a limited amount of time to pick up as many “snowballs”. I suggest 20-60 seconds.
- Give students a limited amount of time to answer the problems they collected.
- Students get 1 point for each problem they answer.
- You keep track of the points.
- Since it can be time consuming to check every students answers I recommend using the honor system. You can also have them check their answers with a partner.
- This last version is competitive but it is done in groups. This is great for students who are shy or lack confidence. Put students in groups with mixed abilities. This way every student has an opportunity to be in the winning group.
- You can do the freeze dance version or have them collect as many snowballs as possible in a limited amount of time.
- The students will answer the questions as a group and get points as a group.
- Do as many rounds as you want.
